The Hijack is the seventh level in Oddworld: Soulstorm. It features Abe attempting to take over a Feeco Train in order to stop it at the Old Trellis and rescue his followers. Abe must use Brew Bottles to light fires, burn obstructive objects, and even take down the Slig Mama.
Walkthrough[]
First thing you are going to want to do after seeing Abe clamber onto the platform is to hoist back down again and swing on the bars to find a secret area with a Royal Jelly. Make the risky swing back to where you started, then climb up to the top of the cart. You can double jump to the cart’s wheelset frame above where you can see a number of crates to break for the relevant medal, you can double jump to the next wheelset frame. To the right you can find an area with a checkpoint and a number of crates, but I’d recommend leaving that alone, it’ll help us later. Also there’s a low-explosive crate among them, so smashing them is just a bad idea in general. Go back to the second wheelset frame and drop down. Use Brew Bottles you’ve either gathered from crates or received from the nearby Vendo to connect a path of flammables from the wooden wall to the active blow torch. While that’s burning away, go back to the first cart and open the trapdoor to get some followers. At this point you’ll be notified of the fire you caused earlier. Go to the border between the two carts, and tell your followers to wait, just to keep them safe. Replenish your Brew supply, and get a Fire Extinguisher, which you should use to put out all the fire.
Move to the third cart, and get yourself some Rock Candies. Give some to your followers, and take some water bottles while you’re doing so. Now use a Candy to break a fuse, which will drop the crates we mentioned earlier on the slig’s head. Use some water bottles to clear your way as you hoist down, and use the Fire Extinguisher to clear the rest. Now here you will have to do another risky swing to some bars below the third cart, but doing so correctly will give you some more followers.
You’ve seen some sligs patrolling to your right by now. Make sure you approach carefully so they don’t shoot you when looking below on their platform’s edge. Set your followers to aggressive and hit them with Rock Candies while they’re patrolling away from you, although try to avoid knocking them out over the trap door. Rush over to the lever and pull it to open the cattle car, and rush inside. Depending on the slig’s consciousness meter, you can either rush out of the cattlecar in time to apply more Rock Candies to the guard’s head, or you can hide in the cart and wait for a better opportunity. If you are lucky, the guard on the upper platform is on the left side and you can clamber up to the next cart with ease. Otherwise, wait on the middle platform and throw some Rock Candies to ensure your safety. Open the next cattlecar and get your followers inside, and tell them to wait. Replenish your Rock Candy supply here if you need to.
Go back left and jump to the uppermost platform, knocking out the slig if you need to, then double jump up to the wheelset frame for some crates and a Royal Jelly. Move back to the cattlecar you left your followrs in and call them all to you. In hard mode there are some mines you need to detonate, but that’s easily done with the free Rock Candies. You’ll see a slig guarding a Phatoline tank. If you try to use brew to spread a fire from the blowtorch to the tank now, he’ll pull the lever and activate sprinklers. You need to knock him out first, then throw your Brew Bottles. Use your Fire Extinguisher to get the flames out of the way, although you may need to switch to Water Bottles if the slig’s corpse ends up blocking the foam.
You don’t need to worry too much about that presence detector, you actually want the flying slig out and there’s plenty of time for all your followers to drop down to the Baxcar Lounge. Once everyones down there, possess the flying slig and bring him down to where you are. Fly him to the left and underneath the neighboring cart, and shoot underneath it to open a way into it. Fly to the right, still underneath the train until you see another set of monkey bars and another wooden board you can shoot. Fly even further right until you see a lever. Pull it, then fly further right to find another set of monkey bars and a corresponding wood board to shoot. You can now detonate your slig.
Pass the checkpoint to your left and make the double jump to the set of bars and double jump through the hole that you shot open earlier. You’ll be rewarded with a Royal Jelly and the last three followers available for this level.
Rush back to the Baxcar Lounge, and progress to the right. Use a Rock Candy to destroy the fuse, then jump to the right to get a good view of the slig. Knock him out, then use Brew to clear the way upwards. Once again use Brew to clear the wooden walls and platforms. Make sure to spread some Brew on where the slig is patrolling so the fire catches him as well. Climb down, then pull the lever and mark the checkpoint to your left. Use the bars to your bottom-right to swing to a secret area. Swing back to the checkpoint, and make your way as far right as you can, then throw a Rock Candy at the fuse to activate some platforms so you can make your way up. Once up, you may see some climbable platforms on the next wheelset frame, but all that’s up there is a slig, which is only necessary if you’re going for a Rock Candy medal.
To your right you’ll find yourself in the firing line of a Slig Mama. In normal mode, it shoots two shells per round. In hard mode, it shoots four, but the strategy is the same either way. Tell your followers to wait, then gather some Brew Bottles. Make your way down to the platform with nothing in your way but crates. Break the first two sets, then back off to safety as the Slig Mama will shoot the rest of the boxes out of the way. Rush to the right after the last shell of the round is out of the way, and you should find yourself between two wooden walls. Lather them and the floor between them in Brew, then make your way to the upper platform and stand next to the boxes. Slig Mama’s shots will creates a fire that will clear everything out of your way. If you ware going for the object breaking medal jump around next to the walls on the upper level to get Slig Mama to shoot them down. Otherwise, hang onto an upper ledge, and pull yourself up as the Slig Mama fires, so that the shells hit the platform and not you. Use this time to throw some Water Bottles to clear the fire where the Royal Jelly is. This will give you more space to manoeuvre. Use that hoisting technique on the platforms closest to the Slig Mama to give you the time needed to throw a number of Brew Bottles to the Phatoline Tank underneath Slig Mama, making sure at least one of them hits the blowtorch. Run to the left as the tank explodes, which will trigger some sprinklers and clear your way. Make sure to claim the Royal Jelly behind the wooden wall you lathered in Brew earlier. Make sure to claim a key from the mechanic Slig.
Last stretch now. You’ll find a cart with some crates stacked on top of it. There’s a Winged Slig flying above it. If you didn’t pull the lever and break the wooden platform beneath the train earlier, you can use it to do that now. Other wise, just use it to kill the final Sligs in your way. Find some blue platforms between the carts, then climb down and grab on to some bars beneath the cart. Swing to find yourself the last Secret Area and the Royal Jelly within. Swing back, find a use the Bird Portal to your right, then find the emergency break needed to end the level.
