Oddworld Wiki

Hi! Welcome to the Oddworld Fandom Wiki!

Recently OWI has began to publish posts on their Twitter citing articles from this site, along with content that heavily implies that the wiki is in some way official or sanctioned.

We'd like to dispel this rumor now: The Fandom Wiki is 100% community run and has in fact been long plagued by information of dubious validity, despite the valiant efforts of its editors (whose job we really appreciate, keep up the good fight!). For this reason, we'd like to ask our readers to take everything here with a great chunk of salt, especially when it comes to content without valid citations.

If you wish to fight against misinformation, you're encouraged to contribute high-quality content to the wiki—that is content that's propped up by a trusted source (examples include: Oddworld.com, Magog on the March, or The Oddworld Library) and contain no headcanons, theorizing, or any further content not directly coming from Oddworld Inhabitants.

Thank you for your attention and understanding! Happy reading and editing!

The Slig Mama is a form of riot control/suppression vehicle used in Oddworld for Industrialist races.

Description[]

A quadruped walker vehicle, the Slig Mama is a heavily armored policing vehicle used for violently suppressing riots and/or uprisings within the Industrial world. Used and manufactured mainly by Sligs, the driver gains access to the cockpit via an elevator located at the bottom of the walker.

The vehicle itself is heavily armored and shielded with a giant riot-control shield with the words "Slig Mama" printed on the front. The walker is armed with a rapid-firing cannon that fires rocket-assisted tank shells and is guided via two laser-range finders. The entire cannon plus the cock pit is put on a rotational ring allowing both the driver to turn the entire weapon at a full 360 degrees without needing to move its legs along with it.

Despite the armor, it isn't a full military vehicle as its back armor is vulnerable from explosives.

Tactics[]

It's considered a boss in Oddworld: Soulstorm, located when hijacking the FeeCo Train towards Slig Barracks. The level is initially filled with flammable wooden crates which would soon be incinerated from the repeated rocket barrages. The rockets can track Abe down so a way to avoid the initial bombardment would be to run all the way back until you hit the front of the carriage behind. The rockets would eventually hit the metal casings, allowing you to have some relief.

Afterwards, try and extinguish the fires with a Fire Extinguisher whilst using the metal casings as cover from the rockets. The weak point is in the propane tanks left standing underneath the walker. Simply ignite it with a thrown Brew Bottle and watch the ensuing fireworks.

Two more Slig Mamas appear near the end of the game inside the SoulStorm Brewery's mixing machine. They handle the same, but this time you have access to powerful items such as the Brewnade, making the fight slightly easier.

Trivia[]

  • Slig Mama is a callback reference to the Slig Queen Skillya.
  • The vehicle is also a callback to the Slig Tank concept art.
  • Furthermore, the overall design shares similarities to vehicle concept art from The Brutal Ballad Of Fangus Klot.
  • It is the first major military-esque vehicle, even though it's a policing vehicle in all intents and purposes.
