Oddworld Wiki

Hi! Welcome to the Oddworld Fandom Wiki!

Recently OWI has began to publish posts on their Twitter citing articles from this site, along with content that heavily implies that the wiki is in some way official or sanctioned.

We'd like to dispel this rumor now: The Fandom Wiki is 100% community run and has in fact been long plagued by information of dubious validity, despite the valiant efforts of its editors (whose job we really appreciate, keep up the good fight!). For this reason, we'd like to ask our readers to take everything here with a great chunk of salt, especially when it comes to content without valid citations.

If you wish to fight against misinformation, you're encouraged to contribute high-quality content to the wiki—that is content that's propped up by a trusted source (examples include: Oddworld.com, Magog on the March, or The Oddworld Library) and contain no headcanons, theorizing, or any further content not directly coming from Oddworld Inhabitants.

Thank you for your attention and understanding! Happy reading and editing!

Flare OSS

These portable, easily thrown Flares are great when you need to shed a little extra light on something. Not the most reliable or consistent source of illumination but it gets the job done in places where technology has failed us.

— Description of a Flare.

A Flare are one of the many craftable items presented in Oddworld: Soulstorm.

Overview[]

Flares are primarily used to light up dark environments. However, they can be used to start fires using pools of Soulstorm Brew. This is especially useful when creating traps for slig guard houses.

By itself, the Flare lasts a surprisingly good amount of time at around a minute before being extinguished. In comparison to Moongrass which lasts indefinitely but is static, or the Hand Torch which appears in one level and only lights up what is in front of Abe, the Flare is much more common and utilitarian in its usage. When a flare runs out, Abe can throw it to reignite the thrown flare and equip a new lit one.

It is also one of the few items that scare Sleeches and protects Abe from all fronts in contrast to the Hand Torch, although at a reduced range
