Oddworld Wiki

Hi! Welcome to the Oddworld Fandom Wiki!

Recently OWI has began to publish posts on their Twitter citing articles from this site, along with content that heavily implies that the wiki is in some way official or sanctioned.

We'd like to dispel this rumor now: The Fandom Wiki is 100% community run and has in fact been long plagued by information of dubious validity, despite the valiant efforts of its editors (whose job we really appreciate, keep up the good fight!). For this reason, we'd like to ask our readers to take everything here with a great chunk of salt, especially when it comes to content without valid citations.

If you wish to fight against misinformation, you're encouraged to contribute high-quality content to the wiki—that is content that's propped up by a trusted source (examples include: Oddworld.com, Magog on the March, or The Oddworld Library) and contain no headcanons, theorizing, or any further content not directly coming from Oddworld Inhabitants.

Thank you for your attention and understanding! Happy reading and editing!

Blahtta Tape

Abe holding the Projekt Soulstorm Blahtta Tape.

Blahtta Tapes are a type of magnetic video tape once commonly used on Oddworld, but are rarely used at the time the series take place. They are most commonly used at communication outposts. Blahtta Tapes take the form of an irregular pentagonal prism, with three reels inside to spin the magnetic tape around.

"Projekt Soulstorm"[]

During Abe's journey through the Sorrow Valley mining facility, he found a dead Mudokon with a note, imploring the reader to take the tape in the dead Mudokon's hands and deliver it to Abe. Abe takes the tape, but doesn't inspect it closely. When Abe reunites with Alf on the hijacked train, he discusses the tape. Alf recognises the tape as being a Blahtta Tape, but thinks they are out of use. Toby, who was driving the train at the time, pointed out that the tapes were still in use in communication outposts. Alf recommends that Abe infiltrate the Slig Barracks "Comms Tower", not only to shut down the communication lines across the train track, but also to see what is on the tape.

At the end of the Slig Barracks level, Abe makes it to the empty Comms Tower, and de-activates it. While there, he searches around for a receptacle to play the tape. He finds one, and inserts the tape. The tape is a video of the Brewmaster explaining Soulstorm Brew to the Magog Cartel: its performance enhancing affects, its addiction capabilities, and the death timer it gives to anyone who stops drinking it. Abe is chased out of the room by a Slig with terrible aim, but takes the tape before making a run for it.

Trivia[]

  • The Blahtta Tape is most likely a reference to Betamax, a video tape that became obsolete due to the success of the VHS tape.
