Oddworld Wiki

Hi! Welcome to the Oddworld Fandom Wiki!

Recently OWI has began to publish posts on their Twitter citing articles from this site, along with content that heavily implies that the wiki is in some way official or sanctioned.

We'd like to dispel this rumor now: The Fandom Wiki is 100% community run and has in fact been long plagued by information of dubious validity, despite the valiant efforts of its editors (whose job we really appreciate, keep up the good fight!). For this reason, we'd like to ask our readers to take everything here with a great chunk of salt, especially when it comes to content without valid citations.

If you wish to fight against misinformation, you're encouraged to contribute high-quality content to the wiki—that is content that's propped up by a trusted source (examples include: Oddworld.com, Magog on the March, or The Oddworld Library) and contain no headcanons, theorizing, or any further content not directly coming from Oddworld Inhabitants.

Thank you for your attention and understanding! Happy reading and editing!

" It's doing that creepy stuff again..."

- Alf on the Amulet

The Amulet (also known as the Queen Bee) is a character introduced in Oddworld: Soulstorm. It assists Abe along the journey by providing him with navigation and allowing for a Quarma exchange.

Appearance & Abilities[]

The Amulet itself is a piece of amber that is worn as a necklace. Within the amber is a strange creature with an insectoid body, spindly limbs, a pudgy face, and bronze armor. Although she is unable to speak, she is able to communicate through tapping her amber casing from the inside, or by shining a bright orange light. This creature is thought to be the queen of the Necrum bees, a race sacred to the Keepers. This reverence is reciprocated, as she reacts warmly towards the last living Keeper.

The Queen Bee is also capable of accessing a person's Quarma, although this ability seems tied to having the Necrum chest tattoo, a scar only Abe is known to have. While she can harvest good Quarma to reward the bearer with the phenomenal power of the Shrykull, she finds black Quarma poisonous, and will die if the bearer's heart is too corrupt.

Oddworld: Soulstorm[]

The Amulet seems to originate from the Necrum Sanctum. At some point the Messenger must have obtained the amulet through the Keeper's secret network. Despite the Messengers bleeding gunshot wound, staring at the amulet gives him the strength to continue. Eventually after the raid on Monsaiac the messenger gifts the amulet to the Mudokon Messiah known as Abe.

The first time the player sees the Amulet is after Abe loads his follower's onto a recently hijacked train. Abe discusses his journey from the Ruins to the Old Trellis, he shows the Amulet to Alf. When Abe mentions that the messenger told him "to find the Keeper", the the words of the dying messenger echo through the room, and the Amulet shines a light upon Necrum Mines, much to Alf's horror. After Abe shuts down the Slig Barracks Communications Tower, Abe starts to wear the Amulet as a necklace. When Abe reaches the Sanctum, the blind Keeper only recognizes Abe by his stiches and the tapping of the Queen Bee through the amulet.

The next time the Amulet appears is at the decision point between the bad ending and the Soulstorm Brewery levels. If Abe has bad Quarma, the Amulet's attempts to gain power through Abe's good deeds backfires, causing it to shrivel, shatter and die. If Abe has good Quarma, the Amulet successfully absorbs the golden Quarma, and then charges Abe with an even more powerful Shrykull capable of sending a bolt of lightning down the Z-Line into Soulstorm Brewery, ensuring that the train is able to get through the facility's defenses. The last time that the Amulet is seen is in the last moments of the good ending, where the amulet is about to show Abe a clue as to where he can find help getting into Nolybab.
